Poorly Done Re-Imagination of a Classic

Let me start with saying I saw this when it first came to the DPAC starring Jennifer Hudson and it was AMAZING!!! I was so excited when I left that I would have paid double my ticket price to just be able to set through it a 2nd time. They had different characters for Young and Old Celie as well as Nettie as well as Different Sets to establish the scene and bring the Play to life. That being said, this time around was completely different. It was more provocative that before. They never even changed the sets, or backdrops for that matter. So the illusion of the story wasn't there. It made it hard to establish where they where. And the Play was RUSHED! They were going entirely to fast. "This Version" is not for the faint at heart. We left during intermission, as did multiple people. I was very disappointed because I was so excited to see this again, to only have my $400 tickets waisted.
